A Bite Of A Big Mac ... (Revised)

As I placed the semi- soggy paper bag labeled McDonald's "I'm Lovin' It" on my wooden table I could smell the preheated burger fill the circumference of my room. I took my desired seat at the table and began to slowly remove the cardboard made box with my soon to be dinner from the paper bag. Opening the box to a scent none other than the McDonald's Big Mac, a mixture of scents from the Big Mac sauce( a combination of mayo, ketchup, and thousand island salad dressing) and precooked questionable meat caused my appetite to rise.As I grabbed the burger I could feel the "secret" Mac sauce drip from the sesame seed bun onto my fingertips. My first bite....... an explosion of flavors entered my mouth. I felt the crunch of the lettuce, the sweetness of the "Mac Sauce", the soft bun, and the rough texture of the sesame seeds. All these flavors combined caused a feeling of passion and excitment to run through my veins. As I chew the remains of the Big Mac, and came back from "burger heaven" I opened my eyes to reality. I opened my eyes to what was a half bitten, stomach turning, the most disgusting and horrific image of the McDonald's Big Mac.

My First Reading Of Food Nation

My Professor gave my class and I a book that we will use for the rest of the semester. The name of the book is "Fast Food Nation" by Eric Schlosser and our first assignment was to read the intro and take notes. The book is basically to open the eyes of American citizens of what they are eating, where it comes from and what harms it can do to your body.

So far I am anxious to read and understand Schlosser's way of thinking about fast food. I have read the introduction and I have to say that it is quite interesting. I took various notes where me and Schlosser shared opinions and where our views were very different. I don't think that by the end of the book that I am really going to change the way I eat just because of my character as a person.I stand behind my views 100% but I am open to new ideas. I really just don't have a care of where my food comes from just as long as it tastes good. I have a really strong stomach and I think that I can endure the gruesome details of this book head on. I'M READY ! =]

Welcome To Michelle's Blog !!!

Hey!

My name is Michelle and I am a freshman at LaGuardia Community College. This is my very first time creating and writing on a blog site. I created this blog as one of the requirements in my research paper class. So far, my day is going pretty well, being that this is my first day in college. I arrived to all my classes early and enjoyed conversations with my peers. So... I am going to tell you a little about myself and my values.

I LOVE to eat different types of foods. I always like to try something new, if it sounds good, if it looks good, and if it smells good, I'll try it. However I'm not really into the whole cooking thing. But the one thing that I can make with no problem are pancakes. I don't do much grocery shopping since I live with my parents.

My parents were born in Colon, Panama but I was born in Brooklyn, New York. My whole family is predominately Hispanic. Growing up in a Hispanic household, has many different values as to other cultures. For example.... the foods we eat. My favorite Hispanic dish would have to be "Arroz Con Pollo."That dish is basically a mixture of rice with vegetables and chicken. This would have to be my favorite dish because the mixture of flavors that the chicken and rice contribute are amazing. My mother also uses many different seasonings that just completes the whole meal. Having "Arroz Con Pollo" for Sunday dinner will really end my day with a smile.

One value that is important to my family is education. I am the third generation to attend college. The major that I have decided to take up is Social Science and Humanities. As I move forward in my journey in LaGuardia I expect to transfer into the field of Psychology. I always had an interest in understanding people mentally and helping with their development.

Well, I have told you a little about myself and I am looking forward to reading and responding to comments.

Later ... :)
